Hi! Switching to a formal-ish newsletter

Hi! This is Moby.

You may have been on my email list for 2 weeks, 2 years, or even almost a decade (since Startup crawl 2016).

I’m turning this into a formal-ish newsletter about LinkedIn Ads + B2B Marketing, called Hunting Leads. Read the first edition here.

In this email, I cover:

  1. What to expect

  2. Why the change

  3. Weekly roundup (AI news, chatter, a song, a YT short, personal updates)

P.P.S. To jog your memory, you’re on this email list because we either met at a Startup Crawl, or one of my mixers in Austin, or you downloaded / attended one of my trainings. Here’s my LinkedIn (I haven’t sent an email in a bit).

#1 What to Expect

Over the last 4 years, I’ve gotten more into paid ads. Over the last 3 months, I’ve left my job to be a solo paid ads consultant.

So far this year, I’ve driven $2.9M in client revenue through my own freelancing.

I think about B2B marketing + LinkedIn Ads a lot. I write about it everyday.

So I want to share what little I know, while I learn from others.

What you can expect = Essays on how to get more B2B leads and revenue:

  • Deep dives into B2B marketing strategies

  • Heavy focus on LinkedIn Ads (and sometimes Meta)

  • Snippets of news / LinkedIn chatter / personal updates

P.S. This is a more niche and structured focus than what you might be used to from me. Please feel free to unsubscribe if B2B marketing is not your jam - I don’t want to clog your inbox with what you’re not interested in ❤️

#2 Questions You May Have

Or maybe you’re just scrolling and are curious.

Why a Newsletter?

I love sharing what I know, and like writing.
I need to build an asset alongside my ads management practice.
Ever since I had the idea, I’ve been obsessed about it. I was taking a course on ads for newsletter during Thanksgiving week, was thinking of it while driving to see family.

Why “Hunting Leads” with a whale?

Leaning into the whole MobyDick thing. Why not? Life is short, and no one really thinks of anyone else that much. Might as well have some fun with it.

Maybe I should finally finish that book…

Why the focus on LinkedIn Ads & B2B Marketing?

It’s what I think about, write about, talk about. There’s frameworks in my head around it, and it’s a lot of fun to pump myself full of caffeine and write about what I know.

When will emails be sent?

Every week, but haven’t picked a final day yet.

What’s the goal?

Get to 10,000 subscribers (with paid ads), and see what happens.

If you’re also interested in newsletters

New Media Summit in Austin might be a good conference to check out. I’ll be there.

I enrolled in Ethan Brook’s newsletter cohort in Jan. I think very highly of Ethan as a person, writer, and community builder. Do check it out if that’s your jam.

P.S. None of the above are affiliate links.

#3 Weekly Roundup

Stuff that caught my eye. Might catch yours too.

🤖 AI Snippets

  • Disney announces a $1B investment in OpenAI and becomes the first major content partner for Sora. AI is coming to the big screen, but more importantly - this is a major indication that full-scale deployment of AI is here.

🗣️ B2B Marketing Chatter on LinkedIn

  • I’m connected to a lot of SaaS marketers on LinkedIn, and the conversations about showing up in ChatGPT and other LLMs is at an all-time high. Every content marketer is sharing what’s working... and it’s still SEO. If you’ve been doing SEO, there’s not much you need to change right now.

  • My friend Elliot’s post has nothing to do with marketing, and made me laugh.

🎵 What’s on repeat this week

  • The song I’ve been going back to again and again is End of the Line by Onepix: a house take on Charles Barkley’s Crazy.

  • On my 2nd watch-through of my favorite show this year, Slow Horses. I enjoyed it more than Severance.

💙 Personal Updates

  • Spending the month in Pakistan with family, and will be back in the US soon. Really enjoying it so far, and hoping I don’t gain more than 5 lbs 🙂

  • It’s going to be 3 months of self-employment in Jan!
